MYS. TERY'S STAR LOCKS: WEEK 2

Cosmic college football picks divined from the ultimate authority

MYS. TERY'S STAR LOCKS: WEEK 2

In these fractured times, it seems any old hobby (baseball scorekeeping, home brewing, fitness watches) can claim – however briefly! – the mantle of “astrology for men.” Here at Channel 6, we are gender expansionists, and believe that astrology is astrology for men. We also keep hearing from a number of traveling patent medicine salespeople that you can't make any money in sports these days without doing gambling content. To meet this emerging market need, we've invited Turfman Industries' esteemed local apparition, Mys. Tery, to pick some games for us this season, as transcribed by our house medium, Jamie Kirsten Howard.

What does this even mean? It means we're quite literally poring over star charts in our office midweek to see which teams appear to be favored, and making our picks irrespective of the Vegas odds. We went 6-1 with this strategy last week; we'll see what happens to that record once we get into the thick of conference play.

How do you decide which games to pick? To keep our own thumbs as light as possible on the scales, we're employing a separation of powers here. Spencer makes a list of "however many games look interesting to him" (very much in the spirit of the Top Whatever), and hands that list over to Jamie, who researches the forecasts and writes them up with Holly.

You're really not looking at the lines when you make these picks? Look, y'all know very well who you're dealing with here: Where would be the fun in that? This is a season-long experiment, and the early weeks are always the chalkier ones, so we'll all find out together whether or not this is a viable longterm sports betting strategy.

Last week's picks were available to all Channel 6 subscribers; picks for the rest of the season will be available to paying stakeholders only. You can sign up for the $10/month or $100/year tiers, and gain access to all Channel 6 projects including our entire back catalog, by hitting the big "Subscribe" button at the top of the site, or by following the directions here. And if none of the above interests you freeloaders, fear not; this is the last preview email you'll receive for Mys. Tery during the regular season.

Enjoy, and please scry responsibly.
